Can you loose weight on vacation?

Now this is a tricky one. Most of us go on vacation and put on a bunch of weight. So how can you avoid this? Keep reading this blog and you may find out. And to take it one step further, how can you actually loose weight on vacation?
My answer is YES to the possiblity of weight loss while on vacation.

Ok, so I know I am fat, now what?

Well, if you followed the step in creating a food diary for about 5-7 days then you are ready for the next step. Or review the section on keeping a food diary if you missed it.
Read your food diary very carefully and see what things you can start cutting down or out completely. I suggest you look at drinks. Do you drink soft drinks? I suggest switching to filtered or bottled water to be the next step. I also suggest avoiding all and any fruit juices, colas, alcoholic or other drinks except for water. So you think I am nuts! However, you want to get slim right? So, try this first step. If you are addicted to sodas I suggest you cut down slowly.

How to keep a food diary

Keeping an accurate food and drink intake diary!

Make sure you have kept an "honest" record of all your intakes. A small pocket size spiral notebook is easiest to use. Your intake diary should include also any little, however little, snacks. It includes all and any drinks. You can estimate how much you ate by measuring in your head approximate tablespoons or cups.

Don't wear yourself out by counting calories. Remember a cup is not the same size as a large coffee cup, but a lot smaller. Look in your kitchen to get a feel for the size of a "cup". Many overweight people have distored views of what is normal portion size so keep this in mind and try to be honest with yourself.

You should keep the diary for at least 5-7 days to get a good accurate idea of how much you really ingest. During this time you should not change anything, just eat as you have over the last few years or time period which lead up to your current body habitus........your shapely size. If you are happy with your current shape and size then get off this blog now, 'cause otherwise you may end up slim. If you stay with this blog you may get great results with some patience.

After you have constructed your diary you need to read it through carefully. Is your intake greater than you thought it would be?

How to cut out sodas

So you are addicted to sodas or at least drink them often. You may benefit from eliminating them completely from you diet even if they say Zero calories on the bottle/can. New research suggests that the sugary taste of diet sodas also leads somehow to continued appetite and weight gain. So why not eliminate this item from you intake. Start with calculating how much of it you really drink. Then elimnate about 10% of it every day for the first week, this should bring you down to ingesting only about 30% of the soda in a week! For example, if you drank 10 sodas a day you would drink one less each day. Really not too hard to do. From there cut down also about 10% per day over the next week until you are out of sodas. Now, remember: do not buy any more sodas into your household. If you have family members who also drink sodas try to get them into the program with you. Some people have lost as much 20-30 lbs in a year from just eliminating sodas. No kidding!
